According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety affects about 40 million people in the US alone! So if you are suffering from anxiety , just know , you are not alone. Anxiety can present itself in many ways and affect everyone differently , but if you have anxiety of any kind, you know, it is not fun. It's true, it takes work and lifestyle changes to maintain it, especially if you want to steer clear of the medication. However, it is possible!

Here are 7 simple things that may help ease your anxiety.

1.Research

No, I don't mean ending up 10 pages deep into some forum of horror stories. Instead, research the different types of anxiety and hone in on exactly what form you may be suffering from. A clear understanding of how your anxiety operates and how it presents, can make it a lot less scary to deal with. It's also nice to see it spelled out to remind you, you are not Crazy, and what you are feeling is real!

2.Journal

Writing in a journal or video journaling is the easiest way to dump out all the thoughts going on in your head. Not to mention, its basically therapy without the bill! We all know it can be extremely hard to talk to someone about what you are dealing with , this way you can get it out in a safe space. It is also beneficial to have an archive of your thoughts , lows, highs, and things that may have helped or hindered your progression.

3.Meditation/Positive Affirmation

If you have anxiety , you have most likely heard you should be meditating . Meditating is one of those things that is incredibly easy and hard to do at the same time. It really is a matter of getting into a routine , but learning the art of silencing and understanding your mind is well worth it. Positive affirmations are even better because you can practice them anywhere at anytime. Simply saying out loud things that encourage positivity and negate whatever negative thoughts are going on. For example,

At this moment, I choose to feel calm and peaceful. Everything is unfolding as it should.

4. Classical Music

Classical music is proven to have therapeutic effects on the mind. Try listening to classical music when your anxious, when you are working, going to sleep , or driving.

Here is a personal favorite classical track I find very calming.

5.Exercise

Endorphins, Endorphins, Endorphins! Pretty much the only selling point exercise needs for anxiety relief. Also, exercise overall makes you feel good about yourself both internally and externally . The better you feel about yourself the easier it is to cope with anxiety.

6.Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is an easy way to create a more calming space around you. It is said that smell and emotion have a strong correlation and olfactory senses can evoke feelings of happiness and contentment. You can receive the benefits of aromatherapy through candles, essential oils, body washes/oils, and car scents. Anxiety also can wreck havoc on peaceful sleep, one thing that has really helped me is burning a candle before bed , spraying my sheets with an essential oil mix, or showering with an aromatherapy body wash.

Essential Oils good for anxiety : Lavender , Bergamot, and Chamomile (Always dilute essential oils before use)

7. Do Things!

Ok, you don't need to jump out of a plane, unless you want to. Anxiety can make you feel like you just don't want to do anything but encouraging yourself to hang out with friends and family, or just getting out of the house in general can help you get out of your own head!

Life only happens once , don't let anxiety be the reason it passes you by.
